You Remind Me of Your Father
I have found that consistency does not come easily. There are moments of brilliance when we function on a level we have been called to live at. What that looks like is moments of godliness where one displays the salt of the earth temperament and lifestyle of a child of God. And moments of ungodliness where our attitude stinks and our lifestyle represent a soul that is feeding upon vomit and filth. “But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire” (2 Peter 2:22).
With this type of inconsistency, we must ask ourselves, who are we? “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13). We are children of God because God has enabled or given us the right to become children of God. It was always God’s invitation and our choice to become His children.
I encourage you to respect those who call you out on your inconsistencies. Inconsistencies will eventually lead to consistency as it relates to good and evil. In the end, you will be consistently righteous or unrighteous. That is why we honor those who do not allow us to hide behind our Christianity but challenge us to live like what we have become.
Jesus, who loves us, points out that our father will always be the one who influences us. Those who influence us we follow, speak like and listen to. We understand the language of our father. In our case, we know the language of God (John 8:42-44). Therefore, the prophets were always able to respond to God when he spoke by saying, “Speak Lord, your servant hears” (1 Samuel 3:9-10). As God’s children, when he speaks, we hear and acknowledge by following Him consistently, proving who our Father is.
