The Great Divide

   Several nations have sent probes and rovers to Mars and our moon to do various experiments.  One goal is to establish if another heavenly body is capable of supporting life. 

   The one question which needs to be answered for life possibility is “Is there any water?”  Science, medicine and common sense tell us that without water, there is no life. 

   Throughout the Bible, God used water as a dividing line. 

• The flood of Noah’s time divided two worlds.  (2 Peter 2:5) “… and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly.” 
• The Red Sea divided a life of bondage in Egypt and the path to the promised land.  (Hebrews 11:29) “ By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned.”
• The Waters of Jordan stood between health and leprosy.  (2 Kings 5:1-14) Naaman almost didn’t cross the healing water due to pride.
• The Pool of Siloam stood between blindness and vision.  (John 9:1-7)Jesus put the clay on the blind man’s eyes and told him to wash in the pool of Siloam.
• God placed a line of water between the world and His Church.    Jesus told Nicodemus (John 3:5)  Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

     Noah and the seven would have perished if he hadn’t built the Ark as God directed.

   The children of Israel would have gone back to slavery or have been slaughtered if they didn’t cross the Red Sea.

   Naaman would have lived his life with leprosy if he didn’t get into the water as directed by God through Elisha.

   The blind man would still be blind if he chose different water, or to just stand barefoot in the water.

Can we expect salvation if we don’t cross the dividing line of immersion in water?  (1 Peter 3:21) “Baptism, … now saves you . . .”
