Bible Health and Fitness

Good health is necessary in living a productive and happy life. It affords one the freedom in physically participating in more of life’s activities. But health issues can hinder and discourage one from doing many of the things they would like. They may desire to participate, but cannot due to physical pain and mobility limitations. They may make plans to attend, but when the day arrives they are apologetically absent because of how they feel. No one enjoys the ups and downs of the health roller coaster but many have no choice. Sicknesses usually cannot be avoided (Is. 38:1Acts 9:36-37Phil. 2:25-271 Tim. 5:232 Tim. 4:20). Old age comes with its trials of pain and discomfort (Gen. 27:1Ps. 90:10Eccl. 12:1). The waning of our physical attributes is sure (Pr. 20:29). Therefore, one should do what they can in maintaining whatever level of good health they have. Better yet, do what they can to improve it. It is a medical fact that eating right and participating in some type of exercise will improve one’s health. While many gravitate towards a healthier lifestyle, others see it as a chore. Nevertheless, all should implement some aspect of being healthier for their physical wellbeing.

With that said there is a more pressing need in the way of eating right and exercise. The need is spiritual. The word of God is good spiritual food, comprised of biblical milk and meat (Heb. 5:12-141 Pet. 2:2). Further, we should all “exercise” ourselves with the daily use of God’s word (Heb. 5:14; cf. Acts 17:11). Below is a spiritual health and fitness routine I made. Try adding it to your daily physical routine that you may be healthier inside and out.

Objective: Grow Stronger (Eph. 6:10Phil. 4:13).

Breakfast: Thy Word (Job 23:12Matt. 4:4).

Meditation: Thy Law (Josh. 1:8Ps. 1:1-2).

Warm up: Stretch in Prayer (1 Kg. 8:54; Mark 14:35).

Cardio: Bible Reading: (Hab. 2:21 Tim. 4:13).

Exercises: Pull up the Old/New Testaments and research tools. Lunge into study subjects. Sit up to truth. Run from error. Jump to learn more. Push up in knowledge.  “…exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things…” (1 Tim. 4:7-8).
