Connected to Humanity and God (With No Cords)

The Bible says, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (1 Timothy 6:7).  Like checking out of your hotel room after a trip, you can only take what you brought to the room (although it is tempting to want to take some soap or shampoo). In our case, as it relates to the earth, we brought nothing because we had nothing. The Patriarch Job suffered a loss unparalleled to anyone I have met. After the dreadful day of losing his wealth, property, and children, he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD” (Job 1:21). Everything that we have is given to us by God, so what is it that we truly lose.  Consider how “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…” (James 1:17).

“For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God” (1 Corinthians 11:12). Every person entering this world must first be connected to their mother by the umbilical cord, which provides oxygen and nutrients. That cord is soon removed; we are reconnected to our mother, then connected to other people, and no physical cords are ever needed again. No extension cord outlet is required with this connection.

I was asked the strangest question this week by a sister in the Lord; that question was, “Do I like my mother?” My response was I not only like my mother, but I also love her. That love was cultivated by the care, time, consideration, and counsel she provided when I came into this world with nothing to offer her in return. An awareness of God came forth through her selfless actions.

No cords are needed to be connected to others; however, an open heart is. Connect yourself to others to maximize and recharge your life. You will find yourself not only living for yourself but living for others and God. Your connection to others and God will make you hopeful and full of expectations daily. Your relationships will keep you going. We love to be alive because of our connections.  Love God more than anyone else and know that God loves you more than all your connections put together; make sure you have a relationship with Him, and He will receive you into an everlasting home.
