Wait to See What God Is Going to Do

Before David became king, he was running from a man determined to destroy his life (King Saul). While on the run, he humbled himself by going to Israel’s distant relatives in Moab, waiting for God to show him something. “Then David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and mother come here with you, till I know what God will do for me.” David said that in one of his most vulnerable moments, he did not know. The tenor of the text implies he knew God was going to do something. That is why we are to believe that God will do something.

We wait on the Lord because our foreknowledge of every problem and struggle is incomplete. We can only see what we can see and do what we can do. If my future is based solely on what I can see and do for myself right now, then my future is bleak and distressing. David, who knew God was going to do something, also said, “ I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:13-14)! As you wait for God, you look forward with confidence as you look toward a future event.

As you wait with hope for the future, you are strengthening your heart. To strengthen is like girding your waste with the truth (Eph. 6:14). Me girding myself ensures I can keep it all together. Although I am dealing with so much, I must keep it all together when I go to work, worship, or any function. Everybody is carrying something. Waiting with anticipation is one way our mind can stay at peace, and we can the peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7.)

God does not give us the luxury of disappearing and relinquishing our duties of being who we are (God’s creation) when we are dealing with the storm of life. When the storm cannot be avoided, enter it, believing you will make it out. As the refrain says in the hymnal, “Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand; But I know who holds tomorrow, And I know who holds my hand.” Wait to See What God Is Going to Do!
