The Greater Gift-Giver is God
Of all the gifts I have received from people, my wife has always given me the best. There is no gift that I have received from her that I was not surprised and excited about. I asked her for her secret, and her response was simply this, “I listen.” During casual conversations where I am not asking her for anything, she listens; when I complain about something that I need or need to be replaced that I won’t or can’t do for myself, she listens and delivers.
We need to remember that God hears and sees. Scripture tells us, “…For your Father knows the things, you need of before you ask Him” (Matthew 6:8). Also, everything that God gives us is good, perfect, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17). The greatest gift that God has given to the world, has been Jesus. Jesus is the gift that was given and remains present in our lives.
We did not initially know we needed the gift of salvation. Although we did not know and did not ask, God saw our deficiency and, through His love, willfully gave Jesus. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). When we were born, we had no idea our time on this earth was temporary. God provided the gift of salvation to ensure we live where we want to be, in Heaven.
Until we are face to face with the Ultimate gift-giver (God), remember that every new day you experience is a gift. We all know, at this point, that tomorrow is not promised. Although tomorrow is not promised something greater than tomorrow is, eternal life through Jesus.
God does not allow Himself to get distracted that He neglects to give good things to you. Since that is not the case with God, let us be diligent that we do not allow the distractions of this world to prevent us from acknowledging who is making things happen in our lives, from the beginning of life to the end on this earth, and continuing life in eternity.
