The Power of Allowing God’s Word to Settle
When people seek the truth of God, they are exposed to many Scriptures, as they should be. We get spiritual information from many resources. In our pursuit to know God, we must take the time to allow Scripture to settle into our hearts. Once Scripture has settled into our lives, we can finally live and grow as God has planned for us all along.
Part of the settling Scripture in your heart is believing what God has said about you. Some people flatter, but when God calls you something, He means it. It is a part of Him empowering you to complete His divine will for your life, and your living and enduring is a part of that. God told Gideon as he hid, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!” (Judges 6:12). He later encouraged him by saying, “Have I not sent you?” (Judges 6:14). For Gidoen to go about and fight to deliver his people, he needed to know that he was sent, God called him mighty, and the LORD was with Him in his endeavors. Those must have settled in before he left his secret hiding place to fight and became victorious.
Not knowing what God has decreed keeps our lives enslaved when we are supposed to be free. As Jesus said, there is something about truth that leads to our emancipation (John 8:32). Scripture declares, “To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” God has called it, and He calls upon us to believe it. “Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:11). In Greek, reckon is: λογίζομαι logizomai verb.Reckon, calculate, take inventory, count, consider.1 To reckon is the epitome of belief. I have taken inventory, added things to us, and made the calculations to see what God wants me to see. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that I am what God has declared me to be.
Scripture says to let God be true and that every man is a liar (Romans 3:4). God means every word He has said about us. All of His word is directed toward you. It is time to allow it to settle, reckon it, and allow it to be true in your life. God has indeed called you to be one of his saints. Therefore, live out your faith. “Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” (Judges 6:14).
