Living the Above Life
A gravitational pull keeps us grounded in our temporary home, Earth, where we are housed in a temporary body. Yet our spirit longs for a permanent dwelling where we will be free from all the hangups and roadblocks of this Earth (2 Cor. 5:1-4). Our new body and home from God will not keep us weighed down by worldly/beneath living. “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the Earth. and corrupt things” (Col. 3:1-2).
Recently, while speaking to a young man, he said he lives his life and has no expectations because bad things always happen to him. He related that he lowers his expectations to avoid disappointment. It was clear to me that the world was impacting him greatly. I encouraged him to continue living with high expectations and expect things to get in his way, which is natural. With every offensive attack, a defense is designed to stop you. No one scores without a strong defense that’s in their way. With every weight that is lifted, there is some form of resistance that we need to make us stronger.
Fight against the weight of resistance that would make you comfortable in a world that is not your home. Fight against the weight of resistance that would make you fight against Jesus, who has come to set all free. We do so by living the “above life” and not the beneath life.” The beneath life pulls you down into the depths of sin, while the above life lifts you mentally and prepares you for your new life far away from this world.
If we allow the weight of this world to crush us, maintaining faith in Christ would be impossible. “And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:23-24).
Don’t get used to the workings of this world. Transform your mind in Christ Jesus and allow Him to prepare you for your new life. You must be ready before it’s time to go (Matthew 25:1-13).
